![]() Without asking me first, the automated function kicked in and deleted all of my browsers saved history, including form data and I suspect cookies as well. It's privacy tools are extremely aggressive. an worst of all, if you don't configure it right away as you want it, you may find it has done things you really didn't want done. The interface is unintuitive, making you look in multiple places to get it configured the way you want it. The tool set is drastically reduced from what it used to be. For the last few years I have not had it on my machines, but not being satisfied with other things I tried I decided to go back to my old friend. My experience wiht Norton Utilities goes back to the days of DOS, when it included tools that could do anything you might imagine wanting to do on your PC. ![]() Also, it seems best to install Norton Utilities first before Norton Internet Securiity if you plan to install both.The good:Not too obtrusive during normal operation.It cleans up registry errors so that the computer is more reliable.Includes a utility that can be used to irretrievably erase files if you want that.The not so good:It's clean-up scan not only cleans up cookies and Internet data you don't want but can also erase the passwords stored in Internet explorer of the sites you logged into and wanted saved. For some reason, Norton does not gracefully update update if you try to update by nstalling without uninstalling first. This can lead to slowed operation or even lock-ups of the computer.Installation note: Before installing any Norton product such as Norton Utilities or Internet Security, always uninstall the previous version first. I am running Windows 7 so I cannot say how it works on Windows 8, but the box says it is compatible with Win 8.The main use of this software is to clean up the computer's registry which can become out of touch after multiple software updates and uninstalls. I have used Norton SystemWorks and now "Norton Utilities" for over a decade now. My computer is faster and more efficient and more than all of that, I understand what is happening. BRAVO for me! I immediately installed it and let it take over. Considering it for a week or so, I weighed the cost of what I already had versus going to Norton, and the fact that the other software had permeated all of my hard drive, likely, I finally made the decision and purchased Norton again. ![]() About two months ago, I was reminded of the existence of Norton and the light went on! This was what I was missing and what I needed to help me understand the workings of the PC and to get by my frustrations. I had some escapades with PCs that tried my patience and tempted me to throw them in the lake, but I persevered. So for the last several years, I had forgotten Norton. I think that the first PC I purchased has another utility preloaded and I just accepted it. As a Mac user of many years, I learned to depend upon Norton Utilities to help me out of many "situations." When I made the leap from the Mac to the PC, for some reason, Norton did not make it with me. ![]()
