Only one problem! She can’t die! So Winnie and the Tucks have to spring her so that nobody finds out the truth about their can’t-die family. Winnie is returned to her parents and Mae is sentenced to death. Creepy suit guy threatens Winnie so Mama Mae kills him. But, all good things must come to an end, and when the creepy guy in the yellow suit tracking the Tucks for their magic immortality water finally finds them, stuff goes downhill quickly. She also learns how to live life and love nature. Technically, she’s kidnapped.Īfter some time (a day or two in the book, weeks? in the movie) Winnie learns to love the Tucks and to learn of their secret. Knowing what the stream does to people, Jesse Tuck can’t let that happen, and so he (and his mother, in the book) take her to their home. Things get crazy when Winifred declares that she would like a drink from the stream. (In the book, young Winnie – who is only 10 or 11 – had been thinking about running away for a while and one day decides to try it just for a day.) In the woods, Winnie stumbles upon Jesse Tuck drinking from the stream equivalent of the sorcerer’s stone. Well, that was the straw that broke the rich girl’s back because she took off! Into the woods that surround her house. Winifred Foster is a privileged, stifled, bored girl of 15 who (in the movie) has just been informed by her strict parents that she will be shipped off to school to learn to be a lady. Neither is comfortable with their sudden gender switch or having to assume the other's personalities, but they quickly realize that until they can find a way to reverse the spell, they have to work together if Nell is to go to Yale and Woody is to get his scholarship and move away from this loutish parents (Sharon Osborne and Maury Chaykin. Nell and Woody are not at all friendly and normally have nothing to say to one another, but one day during a class field trip to a historical museum, the two fall under the spell of an Incan icon and when they awake the next morning, Woody's mind is in Nell's body, and vice versa. Nell (Samaire Armstrong) is a pretty but hopelessly geeky teenage girl who loves Shakespeare and wants little more than to study literature at Yale when she graduates from high school in a few months Woody (Kevin Zegers), who lives next door, is the quarterback on the school's football team, and seems like a sure bet to land a lucrative football scholarship despite the fact he isn't especially bright. Two kids with nothing in common are brought together in a very unexpected way in this comedy.
